What is the history of Chelsea FC?
Founded in 1905, Chelsea were a mid-tier London club until Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought them in 2003 and turned them into a superpower. Under Abramovich they won 5 Premier League titles, 2 Champions Leagues (2012, 2021), 5 FA Cups, and basically every trophy available. Frank Lampard, John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Eden Hazard are all club legends from that era. After Abramovich was sanctioned in 2022, American consortium Todd Boehly/Clearlake bought the club and have spent over $1.5 billion on a young squad. Enzo Maresca is the current manager.
What is it like to support Chelsea FC?
Ambitious, well-funded, and currently very young. The Boehly era has been chaotic — multiple managers, record transfer spending, and 6-year contracts handed out like candy — but the squad now has elite young talent (Cole Palmer, Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández). Stamford Bridge is one of the most atmospheric grounds in London and the King's Road area is genuinely fun on matchdays. Chelsea play a possession-based style under Maresca and are climbing back up the table.
What is Chelsea FC fan culture like?
Chelsea has a complicated fan culture. The matchgoing fanbase is sharp, opinionated, and historically loud — "Carefree, wherever we may be" is one of the great match songs. There's a real community feel around Stamford Bridge that surprises Americans expecting a soulless oligarch club. On the other hand, the club has had ongoing issues with a vocal minority of antisocial fans (the club has actively banned them and runs strong anti-discrimination programs). The American fanbase is massive — Chelsea were one of the first PL clubs to seriously market themselves stateside.
Why should an American support Chelsea FC?

- +American owners — the brand is investing heavily in US expansion
- +Real history of winning — 2 Champions Leagues since 2012
- +Stamford Bridge is in central London (great for visiting fans)

Reasons not to support Chelsea FC

- −Abramovich-era trophies will always carry an asterisk for some
- −Multiple managers in 3 years — instability is the norm right now
