The good news: there's no off-season

Soccer doesn't shut down when the World Cup ends. The Premier League — England's top division and the most-watched soccer league in the world — kicks off its 2026-27 season in mid-August, just five weeks after the World Cup final. From August through late May, there's a Premier League match nearly every weekend, often with multiple matches on a single Saturday or Sunday.

Translation: if you fell in love with watching Pulisic, Adams, or any USMNT player at the World Cup, you can keep watching most of them play every single weekend for the rest of the year. Same players. Same intensity. New jerseys.

Step 1: Pick a Premier League team

This is the single most important decision you'll make. The Premier League experience is built around having a club — the tribal weekly drama, the rivalries, the highs and lows. Watching without a team is fine; watching with one is transformative.

All 20 clubs are in play, but the names you'll see most often: Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham, Everton, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and newly-promoted Sunderland. Each has a totally different vibe, history, and style.

Step 2: Set up your streaming

In the U.S., NBC has the Premier League rights through 2028. The breakdown:

  • ·Peacock Premium ($7.99/month): Every single match that isn't on broadcast TV. This is the must-have subscription for serious fans.
  • ·USA Network & CNBC (cable/YouTube TV): Featured matches each week, no extra cost.
  • ·NBC broadcast: The biggest weekly match ("Premier League Mornings") airs free on NBC, usually 12:30pm ET on Saturdays.

Total cost for full coverage: about $8/month. Cheaper than one streaming sports package most Americans already pay for.

Got streaming sorted? You still need a team to root for.

Step 3: Learn the rhythm

Match days

Saturdays and Sundays mostly, with midweek games every few weeks. Most matches kick off in the morning U.S. time (7:30am-12:30pm ET).

The season

38 matches per team from August to May. The team with the most points wins the title. The bottom 3 get relegated.

You don't need to watch every match. Pick your team's game each weekend and add 1-2 big matchups (the "Big Six" rivalries, or whoever's at the top of the table) and you'll be more informed than 95% of casual fans within a month.

Step 4: Follow USMNT players in their clubs

The bonus to picking a team you connect to: most of the USMNT guys you watched at the World Cup play in or near the Premier League. Tyler Adams (Bournemouth), Antonee Robinson (Fulham), and Matt Turner (Crystal Palace) are EPL starters right now. Pulisic, Balogun, and McKennie are constantly linked with EPL moves.

Want a built-in U.S. connection from day one?

  • · Bournemouth — Tyler Adams (USMNT captain) starts at defensive midfield
  • · Crystal Palace — Matt Turner (USMNT #1) starts in goal
  • · Arsenal — Folarin Balogun's boyhood club, his style fits perfectly

Frequently asked questions

When does the Premier League season start after the 2026 World Cup?

The 2026-27 Premier League season is scheduled to start in mid-August 2026, about 5 weeks after the World Cup final on July 19, 2026. That gives you a short break, then nine months of weekend matches.

How much does it cost to watch the Premier League in the U.S.?

The cheapest legal option is Peacock Premium ($7.99/month), which carries every match the NBC family doesn't air on broadcast or USA Network. If you have a basic cable subscription, USA Network and CNBC matches are included. Total cost: under $10/month for full coverage.

Do I need to pick a team to follow the Premier League?

No, you can casually watch the league without a team. But picking one drastically improves the experience — you'll have a weekly stake, follow transfer news, and join a global community. Our quiz matches you in 60 seconds.

What's the difference between the World Cup and the Premier League?

The World Cup is a 32-team international tournament every 4 years. The Premier League is England's top domestic club league — 20 teams play each other twice over 9 months from August to May. Premier League matches happen every weekend, so you can watch your team year-round.

Can I follow MLS instead?

You can — MLS is American club soccer and Lionel Messi plays in it. But the Premier League is widely considered a higher level of soccer with more famous players and more intense matches. Most American fans end up following both.
